Instructions for XPP on Win32 1. You must have an XServer to run this. You can download oldmix.zip which was a free X-Server. It is primitive but works. A very nice X Server is available at www.starnet.com. Download the demo version. It works for 2 hours and then must be reset. However, you can use it infinitely many times. It is also cheap if you are an academic ($110) or student ($50). 2. Create a directory called xpp4w32. 3. Download xpp4w32.zip into this directory. (If you have limited download capabilities, you can download the much smaller pieces, xppexe.zip, xppdoc.zip, xpplib.zip) 4. Unzip xpp4w32.zip in the xpp4w32 directory. 5. Get a DOS prompt on your machine and change to the xpp4w32 directory. a. If you are on a network, then your PC has a name or an IP address associated with it. ##.##.##.## b. If you are not on a network, then use the following IP address 127.0.0.1 6. Type set DISPLAY=##.##.##.##:0.0 where ##.##.##.## is the above PC name or IP address 7. Start your X Server 8. Type xppaut lorenz.ode and xppaut will fire up. 9. You should run XPP from this directory. If you want to run it from a different directory, you should copy the two dynamically linked libraries, cygwin1.dll and libX11.dll to the same directory as xppaut.exe 10.If you encounter an error such as "Couldn't open X display" then you have used the wrong IP address.
